I'm a native of Toronto Ontario, Canada
How did I get into Fitness?
It was the summer of Grade 10, I started watching the 20 minute workout. I started taping the shows on my tape recorder (I didn't have a VCR at the time). I memorized the workouts and did them in the basement. After a while I made up my own routines.
I did a Phys-Ed Co-Op at an Elementary School and taught Mousercise to the little kids. That's right.. Mousersise.. It was a fun experience getting those little kids moving!
In 1990 I took the YWCA Fitness/Dancercise Instructors Certification Course with Dawn Daniels and my career expanded from there to Pilates, Bootcamp, Yoga for exercise and more. Facilitating classes for ages ranging from 25 to over 80 + years of age.
In the last couple of years, my focus has been on functional training. I prefer what I call "mindful movement" which focuses on training sensibly to help build strength, flexibility and also cardiovascular endurance.
Do not under estimate moving at a slower pace for a"whimpy" workout.
With slower paced movement, the muscles and joints have better opportunity for full range of motion (ROM). The movements are controlled, you sweat, it can be challenging yet safe. And it's FUN!
I quite often vary my own workouts and the classes I teach.
Here are just a few reasons why:
- A break through in weight-loss plateau
- Prevention of overuse injuries
- Build new muscles
- Beat workout boredom
I began teaching CPR/1st Aid Courses in 2003.
Ironically just about every time that I would take re-certification classes for myself, I seemed to become somewhat of a "first aid magnet" and would be called upon to use
my skills I took that as a sign and became an Instructor.
I am a Certified Coach Practitioner through the Canadian Coaches Federation.
Life Coaching, Health and Wellness an Executive Coaching.
I have a passion for learning I believe that knowledge is power and you are never too old to gain new skills. Outside of fitness, I worked with dogs for 12 years. I've educated myself through various workshops and seminars. Although I'm not much involved in the business, I would still like to learn more about dog training, and Behavior Modification. I think dogs are wonderful, amazing beings and they teach us a lot.
