Well, I'd given it some thought and then it came to me -
It's that time of year again... :). So what better topic to start with then THIS one?!
A time for Holiday Office/Work parties, getting together with good friends and family. Then there's the day of and the day AFTER or even the weekend after! celebrating! But, I don't just mean all the food and eating that's involved. I'm also speaking about athe running around and Gift and "to do" checklists which we all seem to have.
Do you ever feel like you're on a "Holiday Hampster Wheel?"
Um hmm... It can happen. So, I have one word for you.
It's important to pace yourself. Holidays should be a time for celebration and for some, remembering or reflecting. Not a time for stress.
A few things you can try for stress busting:
Plan ahead - to help ease the stress of the late nights, the long hours of shopping or even planning a menu if you're hosting a day or evening.
Get some sleep - Sleep is sooo important. Have you ever had a period where you didn't get enough hours in a night or a couple of nights in a row?? I think it's safe to say that most of us have experienced that at some point. Lack of sleep can make you erritable and anxious. If it means that you make it an early night with the girls/guys or limit your computer time (thanks Facebook! he he..), do it!
Be creative - Or INVENTIVE as I like to call it! What about making up certificates for your friends or family? For example: "One day a month of free Babysitting? Or 5 Personal Shopping sessions.
Set a buget - Draw the line baby. If you don't have it, don't try and spend it. Maybe this year you could do things a little different.
Give a gift to a stranger - My Cousins have told me that they've done this Purge unused toys (they have to be in top shape of course). Their Daughter frequently donates her toys that she's finished with to another kid who will love them in her ownspecial way. I love this!
Another thought is: Complete Randomness -> Buy the guy behind you in line a cup of coffee or a bagel! Pay someones bus fare. It'll make their day!
Just keep moving... - With all the celebrating and food consumption, let's face it, you can't avoid it so do this: Get or stay active! Find a way to fit it in somehow. We don't all have Gym memberships and we don't always go to the Gym. Make small changes in your routine like taking the stairs every other day. Start going for walks after lunch or dinner. Walk your dog! They HAVE to be walked everyday anyway and you meet people while you're out there too :).
And lastly - Wellllll, this one is a given... Dance your ass off! Put on your favorite music and dance on your livingroom. I'm serious!! Rock-out my friends... It feels amazing and does wonders for your brain and your heart!
You know, when it comes down to it, If you don't get the place completly spotless, if you forget the batteries, if you gain-5 pounds (which is inevitable), if you don't find that last gift on time, it doesn't matter. What matters is the time you spend with your loved ones. DON'T forget to make time for yourself too!
Don't stress. BREATHE!
